A meeting with Dayak leaders will soon be called to deliberate on the recent decision on ‘pemakai menoa’ and ‘pulau galau’ by the Federal Court.

This planned event is expected to take place after the new year holidays, according to a press statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office on Christmas Day.

“With reference to the recent decision on ‘pemakai menoa’ and ‘pulau galau’ of the Federal Court, the Chief Minister will call for a meeting with Dayak leaders after the new year holidays,” announced the statement.

However, no date was specified for the forthcoming meeting.

At present, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is on a week-long working visit to Australia.

Last Tuesday, the Federal Court ruled that both ‘pemakai menoa’ and ‘pulau galau’ had no force of law in Sarawak.

In a three-to-one decision, the apex court allowed the appeal by the state government and set aside the orders of the Court of Appeal and High Court that recognised native customary right (NCR) over ‘pemakai menoa’ and ‘pulau galau’.
