The kelulut or stingless bee honey industry has the potential for development and market expansion both within the country and abroad. According to the Minister of Home Affairs, the number of breeders producing Kelulut Honey is also on the increase.

In an interview with the Media yesterday after launching Kelulut Mini Carnival 2016 in the Tutong District, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, was of the opinion that the Kelulut Bee Honey production industry will provide another job opportunity that can raise the economic status of the community and nation.

According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, this year's research found that the number of kelulut entrepreneurs had increased from over 250 to 300 in December. As seen from today's carnival and those in the Brunei Muara District, kelulut honey has the potential to be developed and to penetrate the foreign market. It is important that the entrepreneurs had made an effort to improve their products; and in terms of presentation, they are comparable to those of the neighbouring countries. It is also important for us to further improve the way the country promotes kelulut honey to the regional and international markets like the Manuka in New Zealand that is being marketed worldwide.

Yang Berhormat Pehin went on to say that his Ministry will work together with other government agencies in support of the kelulut honey production development. According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, besides increasing the community's income through the One Kampung One Product project, it will also make an impact on the entrepreneurs' economic status.
