Local Man Robbed a Jewellery Store

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

 

A local man who allegedly ran off with jewelleries worth over BND$16,000 in a daring daylight robbery from a goldsmith shop in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan was arrested by detectives of Brunei-Muara Police District.

 

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), the 27-year-old suspect was apprehended at Kg Mengkubau housing area.

 

The CCTV recording and a snapshot of the theft taking place in the shop went viral on social media yesterday morning.

 

In the one-minute long video clip, a man is seen arriving at the jewellery shop and conversing with the shop staff while inspecting the displayed gold jewelleries.

 

The suspect then allegedly stole the jewelleries and ran off.

 

The snapshot showing the suspect in a blue round-collar shirt and with a cap also went viral with the accompanying text detailing the items that have been stolen - one 32.86gm bangle, three bracelets of 87.51gm, 53.75gm and 62.28gm respectively.

 

The police investigator said the incident occurred at around 10.30am and the shop owner immediately lodged a police report using the Police Hotline 993.

 

With the aid of CCTV surveillance within the vicinity of the capital, police managed to trace and arrest the suspect at around 4pm from his house in Kg Mengkubau housing area the same day.

 

The suspect is currently detained at the Central Police Station for further investigation. All stolen it ems have been recovered. The suspect faces charges punishable under Section 380 and 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22.
