It’s annoying enough already to have to pay to use the toilets at train stations.
Now someone’s allegedly installed a coin-operated flush in an apartment.
And the tenants are not happy.
According to a Reddit user, from Melbourne, his landlord has barred him flushing his toilet unless he inserts coins into a device.
Asking whether this is illegal on Reddit, he wrote: ‘I understand in our laundry having to pay for the communal washing machine. But I pay the water bill that goes into my apartment.
‘He said it was a government incentive to save water. But then why does he get to collect the money?’
The annoyed tenant then goes on to say that his neighbour has told him to spread the word in order to expose the landlord.
‘I have spoken to my neighbour and she thinks I should call Today Tonight if the rental advice people tell me that it’s not right for my landlord to do this to me,’ he said.
‘I have looked at their website and you can write them an email with your issue. People like him need to be exposed.’
But many people didn’t seem to be convinced at the man’s claims, pointing out that it is most likely to be illegal as it would mean the renter would not have a functioning toilet.
One user wrote: ‘I’m trying to work out how it would even mechanically operate? C’mon dudes.’
