Indonesian Woman Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Infanticide

An Indonesian woman involved in a case of infanticide was sentenced to jail for three years yesterday by the High Court.
Desi Thania, 19, pleaded guilty to causing the death of her newborn baby girl, by throwing the infant into the Brunei River from the toilet window of a house at Kampong Sungai Besar, at 3am, on August 7.
The defendant was in a disturbed state of mind while doing this, not having fully recovered from the effects of childbirth.
DPP Zuraidah Sidek represented the Public Prosecutor in the case which was presided over by Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong.
Desi was arrested at 5pm on August 8, 2016 by the Criminal Investigation Department officers from the Women and Children's Abuse Investigation Unit.
