BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

An employee of the Water Services Department denied charges of graft and tampering with water meter reading.

The bail of Haji Ramlan bin Haji Matali, a water meter reader. This was extended by Acting Chief Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner who fixed the case for further mention on January 19, 2017.

Pressing charges against the defendant, DPP Pengiran Suzana binti Pengiran Abas  said that the Anti-Corruption Bureau has found that the defendant accepted B$1,000 from the tenant of a house in Kampong Bengkurong. The defendant was aware that the house has an outstanding water bill of B$6,794.38, when he was working as a water meter reader of the Water Services Department, on March 1, 2007.

He is also accused of willfully tampering with the water meter of the house to produce fake readings.
