MUARA PORT, BRUNEI-MUARA
The Muara Port received a visitor from Darwin, Australia, yesterday in the form of the MS Queen Victoria, which arrived at 8.15am, and stayed for about 10 hours before departing for Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, according to a press release.
To commemorate the ship's maiden voyage, an exchange of souvenirs took place between Awang Mohd Fazilah bin Haji Md Yassin, Assistant Director of Ports from the Ports Department, and Christopher Ryndwhich, the ship's captain.
Also present were officers from the Ports and Tourism Development Departments, as well as attachment students from the Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT).
The MS Queen Victoria is the 12th vessel to call at Muara Port this year.
For the past six years, Muara Port has been recording an increase in cruise vessels, passengers and crew members.
The highest number recorded to date was in 2010, when 34 vessels berthed at the port, with at total of 33,860 passengers and 14,310 crew members.
The Ports Department, under the Ministry of Communications, is lauding these cruise lines for choosing Muara Port as one of their ports of call, resulting in an increase in the number of tourists to Brunei, as well as creating more opportunities for the local freight travel agents, tour companies and other related businesses.
