A Vietnamese woman was ordered to settle a fine of $3,200 or serve a jail term of two months and five weeks in default of payment, after she pleaded guilty to being in possession of smuggled goods.

Nguyen Thi Theu was found in possession of 36 cans of beer and 29 packets of  cigarettes when Customs preventive officers conducted an inspection at her rented house in Kampong Kilanas on the night of January 11, 2017.

The officers further inspected the defendant's car and found 120 cans of beer. Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin presided over the case.
