21 Nabbed At Keningau Gambling Den

Twenty-one local people were arrested by the police here on suspicion of involvement in illegal gambling on Saturday.

 

Keningau police chief DSP Ahmad Jawila said yesterday that all the suspects, aged between 18 and 58 years old, have been remanded for further investigation.

 

He said that following a report lodged on January 13, a police team carried out Ops Dadu/Ops Limau at an unnumbered premises at Kampung Pampang here.

 

“During the raid, several men were caught gambling at two tables. A local man, aged 54 years old, admitted he was the organizer together with a male aide.

 

A total of RM3,415 in cash and some gambling paraphenalia used for the game of Pai Kaw and Ketam-Ketam were seized together with the men and brought to the Keningau police headquarters for further investigation,” Ahmad told a press conference here.

 

Ahmad said at the Pai Kaw table , all the gambling paraphenalia and RM2,250 in cash were seized, while at the Ketam-Ketam table, all the Ketam-Ketam equipment, including a long table and RM1,165 cash were seized.

 

All the suspects are now remanded and being investigated under Section 6 (1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which upon conviction is liable to a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both.

 

Meanwhile, in another case, Ahmad disclosed that two foreign men, aged 22 and 23 years old, were arrested for suspected involvement in a burglary here.

 

He said a report was lodged on January 4 by a man that the house he was renting was broken into on January 2 and that some items were stolen.

 

“Investigation at the scene revealed that the man, who rented the house for about two years, had left the house for a holiday in his village in Ranau on December 29, 2016,” he said.

 

Ahmad said at the scene, police found the iron grille door had been pried open and the kitchen door was damaged. The man’s bedroom was ransacked and two rings, a Canon brand camera, an electric guitar, a guitar amplifier speaker, an engine purchase receipt, car registration card, a home phone and clothing accessories were stolen with an estimated loss of about RM5,500.

 

Ahmad said a police team from Keningau CID arrested two foreign men on January 9 on suspicion of having committed theft and burglary. Along with the arrest of the two men, police also confiscated several items comprising of an electric guitar, a guitar amplifier speaker, 13 mobile phones, a keyboard, three power banks, two laptops, a camera, a watch, an external hard disk and a phone fax machine.

 

“Following intense interrogations, the two suspects revealed their involvement in thefts and burglary, one on 18 December 2016 at a business centre building, on December 7, 2016 at a church and on December 10, 2016 of a van in Keningau town area,” he said.

 

Ahmad added that the two suspects had tested positive for drugs in the urine tests conducted and have been remanded for investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

 

Ahmad said that with this arrest the district police have been successful in solving cases involving burglary and theft in this district.
