BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Intermediate Court fixed January 23, 2017 to announce sentence of a uniformed personnel who pleaded guilty yesterday to attacking his grandmother and stealing her jewellery.

According to DPP Rozaimah binti Abdul Rahman's statement of facts, Musa bin Haji Shapawi went to his grandmother's house looking for his cousin at 8.35am on October 4, 2016. The defendant asked his grandmother where his cousin was, to which she replied he was sleeping in one of the rooms. The defendant then went to look for his cousin but could not find him and left the house.

He then went back but parked his car next to a futsal field nearby the house . He then returned to his grandmother's house by foot, dressed in a hooded jacket.

The defendant then bumped into his grandmother and covered her mouth with the jacket sleeve and then using a pillow he found.

This was when the defendant pulled his grandmother's gold necklace and two gold bracelets from her hand. He then fled the scene and threw away the jacket while hiding the stolen jewellery in his sister's bedroom back at his house.

The defendant's cousin then asked him for help to report the incident to the police. At first the defendant remained quiet, but after his cousin insisted he lodged the report.

Police came to the scene the same day and conducted investigations which immediately led to findings that the defendant was the perpetrator. Judge Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Bahar presided over the case.
