Royals Graced Final Day of Swimming Championships

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) graced the third and final day of the 24th Brunei Age Group Swimming Championships at the Aquatics Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

 

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah of International School Brunei (ISB) achieved a new national age group record for nine year olds boys' in the 200-metre freestyle event after clocking a time of 3:47.69.

 

Also present were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak 'Abdul Raqiib bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raqeeqah Raayatul Bolqiah binti Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.

 

 


Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak Dr. Kamaludin Al-Haj and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak 'Abdul Raqiib.

 

 

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Muntaqim also competed in the 50-metre backstroke setting a time of 56.05s and shattered his old time of 2:24.10 the 100-metre breaststroke with a time of 2:13.10.

 

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Muntaqim was joined by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak 'Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim in the Boys 10 Years Olds 50-metre backstroke event.

 

Yang Teramat Mulia broke a two-year national age group record in the 200-metre freestyle previously held by Muhd Wazien Shah Mohd Edani who clocked 3:55.55 in the Brunei Inter Club.

Yang Teramat Mulia's latest sporting achievement in the pool has earned praise from the International School Brunei Head Coach Jeremy Salonga Salasibar.

 

"This is the first time that Yang Teramat Mulia joined the 200-metre freestyle event and suffice to say he did a very good job. He followed the plan on what we wanted him to do and he followed the pace what we wanted him to do. He smashed the times with good numbers," said Jeremy in an interview with the Bulletin yesterday.

 

"We first started with short distance events and in 2013 he was swimming at 50 metres but now he switched to the 200-metre competition," said the ISB head coach.

Meanwhile, Brunei's national star Nur Haziq Samil performing under the banner of Micia Swimming Team accumulated a treble of victories in the 50-metre backstroke, 200-metre freestyle and 200-metre IM to consolidate his position as one of the country's leading swimmers.

 

The biggest winner in the Girls 14-15 Years age group was national star Ashley Chai of Royal Brunei Recreation Club who triumphed in the 50-metre backstroke, 200-metre freestyle, 100-metre butterfly, 200-metre IM and 800-metre freestyle.
