JERUDONG, BRUNEI-MUARA

Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah joined 200 female runners at Jerudong Park yesterday for a morning run, in the Let's Walk/Run Ladies 2016 event, organised by the Women Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam (PSW) in celebration of International Women's Day.

In her speech, PSW President Pengiran Hajah Zubaidah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin conveyed her gratitude to Her Royal Highness for attending the event as the guest of honour.

Mentioning the association's earlier projects, she said, "We hosted a dialogue and briefing on the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women to celebrate International Women's Day. However, this year, the association is gathering women to celebrate their femininity, regardless of age.

"Besides gathering together women of various ages, the recreational activity also hopes to unite ladies to be active in social activities, and support the move of exercising for good health and wellbeing," she said.

Another main goal is raising money for the PSW Fund, which will be used to maintain welfare programmes for the underprivileged.

Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness joined in a fun warm-up aerobics exercise conducted by a Fitness Zone instructor.

Following the warm-up session, Her Royal Highness sounded off the 10km run, and then took part in the 5km run, finishing the race in second place with a time of 27 minutes.

In the 10km race, Airince Liam crossed the finishing line with 39.41 minutes to clinch first place, followed by Julia Durston (41.21 minutes) and Dayang Hajah Nora binti Haji Ramli (49.54 minutes).

PSW was established on February 5, 1990 with the aim of uniting women graduates in Brunei Darussalam and fostering professional relationships among the graduates.

The association also serves as a forum to discuss issues relating to women in self-development, family, community and country. Additionally, PSW aims to conduct activities to raise the involvement of women graduates in the country's development.
