Crown Prince Makes Working Visit to NDP

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Officer, Chairman of the Executive Committee for the 10th National Development Plan, this morning made the 9th working visit to several project sites under 10th National Development Plan, NDP, specifically projects under the Ministry of Development.
On arrival at the Project Site Office, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, and Second Minister of Finance, as the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the 10th NDP; Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development; as well as other members of the Executive Committee of the 10th NDP.
Doa selamat was read by Pengiran Haji Mohammad Hafizzudin bin Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Mosque Affairs Officer. Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Acting Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional), Ministry of Development in his briefing, spoke on the development of the three projects. The 3 projects located in the heart of the capital, when completed will give Bandar Seri Begawan a new look and would have the potential to attract many visitors, not only the locals but also tourists from other countries. Therefore, the projects could generate the country's economic growth through the opportunities to open new business areas and tourist facilities.
His Royal Highness then took a closer look at the progress of the Kampong Ayer Zone 'A' Revitalisation Project: Backfilling and Reclamation Work in the area from Kuala Sungai Kedayan to Edinburgh Bridge, costing nearly 36 million dollars. The project which began on the 26th of January this year is scheduled to take 28 months to complete. This project is located within the area under the proposed Bandar Seri Begawan Master Plan on regeneration of the River Bank Eco-Corridor, one of the catalyst projects for a rapid development of Bandar Seri Begawan. To date, this project is more than 53 percent completed.
The scopes of the construction work that is being carried out in Zone A involve reclamation of the river bank, filling work and building of a one kilometre long retaining wall along the river bank, construction of walkways, building of a 120 metre long pedestrian bridge from Kampung Limbungan to the commercial centre in Batu Satu, Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, construction of Sumbiling Jetty near Istana Darussalam, construction of landscape and river-dredging work in the area.
His Royal Highness then proceeded to Terindak D'Seni for morning refreshment. From here, His Royal Highness viewed the overall Phase 2 of the Jalan Residency Expansion Project. His Royal Highness then went to the Phase 2 Jalan Residency Expansion Project Site. Work on the project, under the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development, costing nearly 50 million dollars, began in July 2014. So far, more than 50 percent of the project has been completed. Jalan Residency is the main road for residents in the Kota Batu area and users of the bridge linking Kampung Sungai Kebun to the town centre. The first phase of the project was completed and has been in use since April 2013.
The Project Site of the Connecting Bridge from Sungai Kebun to Jalan Residency was the last stop of His Royal Highness' working visit. The nearly 140 million dollar project is now almost fully completed. From a special vehicle, His Royal Highness viewed the development of the bridge construction up to the end of Jalan Sungai Kebun. The bridge offers an alternative route that can help ease traffic congestion in Jalan Tutong and reduce travel time.
The 600 metre long bridge will become the country's another landmark in the field of communication. It will also be the first cable-stayed bridge in the country. His Royal Highness' working visit to the 3 project sites reflects the leadership of His Royal Highness in ensuring the smooth execution of the planned projects in support of the nation's aspiration towards achieving Vision 2035.
