BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Intermediate Court yesterday handed a one year's imprisonment sentence to a uniformed personnel for attacking his grandmother and stealing her jewellery.

APO 6973 Musa bin Haji Awang Shapawi went to his grandmother's house looking for his cousin at 8.35am on October 4, 2016, Judge Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Bahar heard.

Searching for his cousin at that time, the defendant asked his grandmother about his cousin’s whereabouts to which she replied was sleeping in one of the rooms.  The defendant could not find his cousin and left the house.

He then went out and parked his car next to a futsal field near the house and returned to his grandmother's house by foot, dressed in a hooded jacket.

He went inside the house and  bumped into his grandmother and covered her mouth with the jacket sleeve and then using a pillow he found.

This was when the defendant pulled his grandmother's gold necklace and two gold bracelets from her hand.

He fled the scene and threw away the jacket while hiding the stolen jewellery in his sister's bedroom back at his house.

The defendant's cousin then asked him for help to report the incident to the police. At first the defendant remained quiet, but after his cousin insisted he lodged the report.

Police came to the scene the same day and conducted investigations which immediately led to findings that the defendant was the perpetrator.

PP Zuraidah Sidek represented the Public Prosecutor in the case.Defence counsel Rozaiman Abdul Rahman represented the defendant.
