Smuggled Cigarettes at a Vegetable Stall And Liquor Amongst Items : 4 Fined

The Magistrate's Court yesterday fined four locals including two women for possessing smuggled cigarettes.

 

Aisah binti Nayan, 43, got a $3,900 fine, or four-months' jail in default of payment, after pleading guilty to possession of 104 packets of smuggled cigarettes that were kept at a vegetable stall in Pekan Bangar, Temburong, on January 7, 2017.

 

Fatimah binti Nayan, 38, was ordered to pay a fine of $4,000, or serve four months' imprisonment in default of payment, after pleading guilty to keeping 116 packets 'of smuggled cigarettes at a vegetable stall in Pekan Bangar, Temburong at 10.20am on January 7, 2017.

 

Sahari bin Nickman, 45, received a fine of $8,000, or eight months in jail in default, after pleading guilty to being in possession of 22 cartons and three packets of smuggled cigarettes that were found in his car on arrival at the Kuala LurahControl Post at 6.20 pm on June 16, 2014.

 

Mahanin bin Jaafar, 48, was ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, or serve two months' jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to possession of six cartons and seven packets of smuggled cigarettes that he was caught carrying on arrival at the Kuala Lurah control post at 1.55pm on August 28, 2014.

 

In another case, a 29-year-old Malaysian man was ordered to, pay a fine of $8,000, or serve jail for eight months in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of 10 cartons of beer, 20 bottles of liquor and 18 cartons of cigarettes.

 

He was found carrying the smuggled items in his car on arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 11.59pm on January 24, 2017.

 

The-cases were presided over by Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid.
