IBTE Holds QMET Workshop

Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Jefri Bolkiah Campus recently held a workshop on the quality in maritime education (QMET).

 

Shiran Ali, Associate Director, Programme Management of Temasek Foundation International (TFI) and Chia Hui Yong, Deputy General Manager of Singapore ,Polytechnic International (SPI) were the guest of honours for the event. They were welcomed by Pengiran Hajah Hamidah binti Pengiran Haji Hidup, Acting Deputy CEO, IBTE Development.

 

Pengiran Hajah Hamidah highlighted that "Brunei Maritime Academy, under the IBTE Satellite, has achieved the requirements for the QMET certification and will continue to improve and strive for quality."

 

"This cascading workshop intends to introduce QMET to IBTE personnel who are directly involved in the Maritime Education and Training as well as to provide awareness and understanding of the standards, quality management system, and management responsibility," she added.

 

The QMET certificates will be granted by TUV SLID PSB Pte Ltd, Singapore to the Brunei Maritime Academy to allow 15 master trainers to share their insight in the cascading workshop.

 

Shiran Ali, stated that "this is the first in country programme to be held in Brunei in collaboration with Singapore's Maritime Academy, with common goals and interests; this will help to share the knowledge and skills between both countries."

 

The event additionally saw a short presentation by Norjemee bin Jenek, Principal of IBTE Satellite, on the QMET experience and how the training was completed.

 

Shiran Ali was then demonstrated the QMET quality manual and other relevant documents related to the QMET experience.
