Bandar Seri Begawan

A local man was ordered by the Magistrate Court to pay a fine of $1,000 or serve a month's jail for shoplifting.

Adi Sabirin bin Haji Abu Bakar, 34, had pleaded guilty for stealing items worth $285.87 from Giant Hypermarket in Rimba at noon on February 4, 2017.

It has been reported that the defendant entered the premise to get the items but left without paying. As he was leaving, he was stopped by a security staff asking for the receipt.

The defendant then claimed the receipt was with his wife and proceeded on pushing the trolley towards the car park where another two security staff stopped him and found the items did not have the ‘Paid’ stickers tampered on them.

The police was called and their investigation confirmed the defendant’s actions.
