THE Employees Trust Fund (TAP) continues its Supplemental Contributory Pensions (SCP) scheme for Self-Employed (SE) reaching out programme to the public.
This SE initiative coincides with the widening importance of the savings mentality especially with regards to retirement.
The SE programme is implemented to strengthen the overall social security protection to those outside of the usual private and public sectors.
The eligible Self-Employed person can also benefit from the SCP Scheme in terms of annuity after the age of 60 years, as well as its survivorship benefit in the event of death before attaining the age of 60 years old.
The eligibility of this scheme are citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam who are aged from 18-60 years old that do not have a formal job or no longer working in a formal job where there is a contract of service between employer and employee, do not receive any pensions from a pensionable scheme of service, and is engaged in any trade, vocation, profession or other activity in Brunei for the purpose of gain.
Examples of Self-Employed workers involved in an income yielding job regardless of whether the income received is fixed or not such as fishermen, farmers, online business owners, food stall sellers, freelancers to name a few.
