Crown Prince Consented to Officiate the Finals of the National Musabaqah of the Al-Quran Competition for Adults 1437H/2016

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), last evening officiated the finals of the National Musabaqah of the Al-Quran Competition for Adults 1437H/2016 at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Also present was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.
Their Royal Highnesses were greeted upon arrival by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs cum Executive Committee Chairman of the event and other executive committee members.

The ceremony opened with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by YB Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
During his speech, the Minister of Religious Affairs said that in its bid to further enhance Al-Quran reading skills and unleash the potential of young Qaris and Qariahs, especially in the 'tarannum' (melodic) reading field, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) organised workshops for the young Al-Quran readers since last December, under the guidance of experts and thanks to this initiative, one of the young Qaris have successfully entered the finals of the competition for the first time.
Additionally, he said the workshop was also attended by participants of the competition who have made it to the finals, under the guidance of two local experts and one from overseas and shared that the workshop will carry on for champions of the competition who will represent Brunei at the International Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran in Kuala Lumpur scheduled to be held in May.
Guests saw four participants of the competition, namely Awang Mohammad bin Ali, Dayang Hajah Siti Noor Dzuhairah binti Haji Awang Damit, Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji jofri and Dayang Amal Nazirah binti Haji Asmat reciting verses from the Al-Quran.
During a break, the ceremony saw an Al-Quran recitation performance by Awang Haji Mohd Noor bin Haji Ibrahim, the 2012 Champion of the Musabaqah, Memorising and Translation Tilawah Al-Quran for Asean Universities Competition.

Carrying the theme 'Al-Quran, the Spiritual and Physical Healer and Remedy' for this year, the annual competition will continue today with recitations from eight more participants and will culminate tomorrow evening, where results will be announced to determine the champion Qari and Qariah for the competition.
