Local Convicted for Corruption

Bandar Seri Begawan
A local and former Brunei Shell Petroleum, BSP Personnel who held the position of a Production Foreman at the Production Operations Department (POP) was convicted by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate Court after being found guilty of 11 charges under Section 6 (a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131 and punishable under Section 7 (1) of the same Act.
Investigation conducted by Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that between October to November 2005, Awang Rosli bin Haji Simon had corruptly received gratification a sum amounting B$65,800 (Sixty Five Thousand And Eight Hundred Dollars) from Steve Liew, a Salesman at Musfada Enterprise, a contract vendor under Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd, as a reward for putting up requests for the purchase of products which is part of a contract with Brunei Shell Petroleum.
The Magistrate Court sentenced the Defendant to 6 years imprisonment for each charge, which is to be served concurrently. The court also ordered the defendant to pay a penalty under Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act of BND$65,800.00 within 3 months and in default of payment, to serve 3 months of imprisonment concurrently, as well as prosecution costs of $200,000 within 3 months and in default of payment, to serve an additional default imprisonment of 3 months.
