Bandar Seri Begawan

A local man pleaded guilty to a charge of auto theft yesterday before Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid. The defendant will learn his fate on March 11.

Mohammed Sofri bin Zaini/Jinen, 37, stole a car from the dumping area of Delima 2 Building Complex in Berakas on February 27, 2017. The defendant was actually driving a car himself before leaving it at the Serusop commercial area after it ran out of fuel.

He walked all the way near to where the car was, and noticing its doors were left unlocked, ignited its engine grid drove off.

He picked up a friend in Anggerek Desa and later left the vehicle at the basement car park of a commercial building in Kampong Mentiri.

The owner of the car lodged a police report the same day he lost his car which led to the defendant's arrest and recovery of the car.

DPP Azmeena binti Mohiddin prosecuted the case.
