Crown Prince Attends National Musabaqah Al-Quran for Adults 1348 Hijrah/2017 Finals

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda outlines measures towards improving and ensuring the performance and quality of the country's representatives to Quran Reading and Memorisation Musabaqah abroad.
His Royal Highness also stresses that it is important to ensure the Musabaqah which the country participates in are at least National level or organised by the governments of the host nations. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the opening of the Finals of the National Quran Reading Musabaqah For Adults at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas early last night. In the sabda, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also highlights the theme of the musabaqah, "Al-Quran temanku Menceriakan Hidupku" saying it is in-line with the call of the Zikir Nation because Al-Quran is the Ummul Kitab or the Main Religious Book that was revealed directly to the last Messenger of Allah.
Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Musabaqah Executive Committee, as well as other committee members.
Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah. The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
The Minister of Religious Affairs, in his welcoming address, said that the Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah began at the zone or district levels, where participants are required to score 75 percent and above to be selected for the quarter finals. From the 93 participants who made it through to the quarter finals, only 57 participants advanced to the semi finals.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in the sabda says among the routines of a Muslim is being close to Al-Quran, by reading and understanding its contents which remind us of the Greatness of Allah the Almighty. Continuing the sabda, His Royal Highness stresses befitting the 57 years of the Musabaqah, certainly much experience have been gained in organising and adding value to the impact of national religious events. Hence the experience should be the benchmark in measuring the country's achievements in the aspect of Quran reading.
Touching on efforts to improve the quality of Quran reading, His Royal Highness proposes that the country reviews the method of inviting renowned international Al-Quran experts so that the country's readers would gain the optimum benefit from their presence. This includes inviting more international experts. The Musabaqah Al-Qur'an is held for 3 consecutive nights. The first night saw 4 participants presenting their readings.
