Polygamy in Islamic Law Context is defined as a marriage in which a husband has more than one wife, as permitted by Al-Quran. Although Islam allows polygamy, several aspects should be considered by husband. Among it are the wife permission, fairness to the wives as well as alimony agreement with the wives and children. This matter were touched at the 5th Law Discussion Series entitled "Poligami : Antara izin dan hak pihak-pihak".

The session was delivered by Mohammad Shahray bin Zulkifli, Syari'e Lawyer of Tatuan Yusof Halim and Partners Shari'ah Unit. According to Mohammad Shahray, it is an offence for a man to marry another woman during the existence of his marriage except with the written permission of a Syar'ie Judge. The session stated that if found guilty of the offence, a fine of not more than two thousand dollars, imprisonment of not more than 6 months or both will be imposed.

The session was organised by the Community Welfare Council, MKM with the cooperation of Tetuan Yusof Halim & Partners. It aimed to raise awareness among the public on the current Laws of Brunei as well as to educate them on the field of law. The session was held yesterday at the lecture hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
