The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism has introduced Titih paddy that can yield 8 tonnes per hectare. According to the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Titih paddy is more profitable to the local farmers compared to Laila paddy. The Titih paddy, which will be introduced end of this year or early next year, is able to yield a high-quality paddy. The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism explained the matter is related to the current situation of Laila paddy.

In respond to the query raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, Yang Berhormat said it is logical for the farmers to switch to Titih paddy from Laila paddy.  It is the ministry's policy to increase paddy production and to look for paddy seedlings that can yield more paddy and rice per hectare. Although, the ministry is introducing Titih paddy to be planted end of this year, it is also trying to find seedlings that can yield 12 to 13 tonnes per hectare which will be introduced in 2019.
