Graduates who are still seeking jobs will have the opportunity to gain work experience and the capability needed by industries once the Graduates Apprentice Scheme is launched next month. It is among the government initiatives for capacity building and human capital development as underlined under the focus and priority of the 2017-18 financial year budget.
Known as 'i-READY’, the graduates apprentice scheme is expected to be able to improve human resource development and job-seekers capability required by industries. Under the scheme, the participants will attend various training programmes to further enhance their marketability. They will also be given allowances for a maximum period of 3 years. According to Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance, at the initial stage, a total of 65 percent of graduate job-seekers will undergo the scheme which runs concurrently with four programmes - Learning and Grow, Growth for Excellence, Upskilling and Reskilling as well as Training Grant. Through the scheme, hopefully, the mismatching issue between qualifications and the jobs offered can be minimised. Towards this, a total of 15 million dollars will be allocated for implementation of the scheme.
To participate in the programme, graduates need to register at the Brunei Jobcentre, via: www.jobcentrebrunei.gov.bn. It is hoped the programme will successfully produce local graduates with the experience and capacity required by industries.
