The Passing Out Parade of the National Service Programme, PKBN's 6th Intake recorded a new historic chapter because it was the first time such a ceremony was held at the new PKBN Training Camp at Kampung Batu Apoi in Temburong District. During the ceremony, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam also consented to present awards to the Intake's best trainees.
Upon arrival at the Parade Ground, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Hj Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Embran bin Haji Sabtu, Member of the Legislative Council, Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, the Commissioner of Police, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and Awang Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abd Samad, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culuture, Youth and Sports.
Shortly after arriving, His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by 357 PKBN 6th Intake trainees, comprising of 280 men and 77 women. Self-identity, religion, nationhood and entrepreneurship were among the values inculcated in the National Service Programme or PKBN. The activities are designed towards encouraging and motivating the young trainees to play a positive and effective role in the community and country.
His Majesty then consented to present awards to six outstanding trainees. The Best Male Trainee In Parade Drill was awarded to Awang Muhammad Syahmi Sufi bin Mohamad Salleh while Dayang Farah binti Mohamad Rashidi wasd the best Female Trainee in the same category.
Awang Hafiz Ifwat bin Azmi and Dayang Syaqillah binti Japar were the Best Male and Female trainees in Physical Training. The overall Best Female Trainee was Dayang Qurratul'ain Syukriyah binti Haji Shamsul Ariffin while Awangku Yura Wira Putera @ Awangku Muhammad Amin bin Pengiran Yunos was the Best Male Trainee. Doa Selamat was read by Awang Abdul Qayum bin Haji Metussin, the PKBN Religious Officer.
Since it was introduced several years ago, the National Service Programme has equipped its trainees with positive values for self-development such as strong spirit, commitment, courage, resilience, and self-confidence which are important in facing the diverse life challenges.
