Juventus' Sami Khedira says 'I will go to America,' but not just yet

Sami Khedira says he would like to travel after his Germany career is done.

WORLD

Sami Khedira says he plans to play in Major League Soccer one day, though a move is not likely to happen in the immediate future.

The Juventus midfielder has been linked with a move to MLS as soon as the summer, but the 29-year-old believes he has a few years at the very top to go before he thinks about winding down his career in the United States.

"I can see some travelling in my future," Khedira told Italy's La Repubblica. "I will go to America, but not yet. I want to play at the highest level for a few more years -- I still feel good physically and mentally.

"There are a lot of great players around, but I don't think there are that many better than me.

"I want to win the Champions League and I want to defend the World Cup title with Germany and all of this would not be possible if I went to the USA or China. Besides, I'm earning pretty well here anyway."

Calcio Mercato reported in November that the LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and New York City FC were all interested in Khedira.

The Germany international came up through Stuttgart's academy before leaving the Bundesliga for Real Madrid in 2010. He then joined Juventus before last season.

And Khedira said he cannot see himself wearing a different shirt in the Bundesliga, with Juve likely to be his last club in Europe before moving stateside. Only when he finally does pin up his boots does he plan on returning to Germany.

"Stuttgart are my club and I am proud that it is the only German club's shirt I have worn in my life," he said. "In the future, I will go back and lend a hand, maybe in a different role, but I'm going to play on for a bit before I take a break to travel the world.

"I don't know if that will be a year or less, it will depend on how much time I need to dedicate to myself."
