Forty-five out of 80 houses at the squatter colony in Kampung Muhibbah, Likas were destroyed by a morning fire yesterday.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said 30 wooden houses were razed to the ground in the 7.50am incident.

“Some 45 houses were razed while firefighters managed to save about 30 houses from being destroyed,” he said yesterday.

A distress call was received at 8am and eight fire engines from Lintas and Sembulan were sent to the scene.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze by 9am while the whole operation ended about an hour later.

No casualty was reported while the cause of the fire and total loss are still under investigation.
