An allocation of 10 million dollars has been provided to implement the E-library project. It will involve 9 branches of the Language and Literature Bureau and 5 more libraries from other ministries and departments. The project, which was fully completed at the end of March 2016, is now under a 4-year maintenance period starting from this 1st April until the 30th March 2021.
The Minister of Culture Youth and Sports explained the matter in response to a question raised on E-Library. According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, the function of the e-library is to firstly facilitate users in finding materials and references in libraries involved in the project such as expediting the processes of lending and returning books, member registration and cataloguing. The second function is to provide an e-library lending and returning system which includes the provision of book drops, and thirdly to provide facilities in the form of i-pads for use by library visitors. Yang Berhormat said that this can be used by library members to read books online either through the installed applications or the internet. The subscribed online e-books will be provided free of charge.
