Land owners using the Code D and Code Z identification codes are asked to update their information at the Land Department by July 31.
Since the transition project of the Land Registration from the manual system to the computerised Land Registration System (LRS) in 1985, a number of registered land owners with unknown identification card number have been found.
These land owners use the identification codes for Code D for land owners who were deceased during registration; and Code Z for land owners who were still alive during registration.
According to a press release from the Land Department, these temporary identification codes ease the implementation process of the LRS project which is still being used today.
The information on these registered land ownership cannot be updated and no revisions were made due to no land transactions on the owned lots and the Land Department facing difficulties in tracing the land owners in order to update the information in the Land Registration System.
As such, cooperation is asked from land owners or their heirs to visit any District Land Office and fill out the 'Updating Information on Ownership of Land' forms.
Completed forms should be returned attached with the required documents within two weeks of taking the form.
The information required is needed for the Land Department to update the owners' data and the ownership of their land to the Land Registration System.
The forms can be downloaded through the Land Department's website www.tanah.gov.bn or attained and submitted back to the District Land Offices at BruneiMuara District Land Office, 15t Floor, Land Department building; Belait District Land Office; Tutong District Land Office; and Temburong District Land Office.
The time for the receipt of the forms are 8am to 11.30am and 2pm to 4pm on Monday to Thursday, and Saturday.
Land owners or their heirs are asked to be present to the District Land Offices within three months, May 2 to July 31.
Failure to do so will enable the Land Department to take action to revoke the land in question as ruled under section 18 of the Land Code Chapter 40.
For more information, visit the Land Department's website or call the hotline 238-1181.
