A 38-year-old local man was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000, or serve five months of imprisonment in default, after he pleaded guilty to illegally possessing 100 kilogrammes of smuggled beef lungs.
Omayah bin Haji Mumine was stopped by officers from Customs and the Halal Food Control Unit at a car park in Kampong Batu Marang, at 9.15am, on April 8. He tried to escape by driving to a nearby house, but was successfully detained.
While inspecting his car, officers found the undeclared beef lungs which Omayah confessed had been smuggled into the country by boat, from Limbang.
Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman presided over the case.
