BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Two brothers were yesterday sentenced to jail and slapped with a fine after being found guilty in the High Court of trafficking, possessing and consuming methylamphetamine.

Mas Wira bin Mohd Jawi was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000, or serve jail for seven months in default of payment, for possession of E1397 grammes of methylamphetamine contained in crystalline substances, possession of 1.3956 grammes of methylamphetamine contained in crystalline substances and consumption of the same class A drug.

Mohd Arif bin Mohd Jawi was sentenced to 25 years' jail and 15 strokes whipping for a charge of possessing 74.9108 grammes of methylamphetamine contained in crystalline substances for the purpose of trafficking.

Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Haji Kifrawi bin Dato Paduka Haji Kifli ordered for the sum of $4,069 in cash found and seized during investigations of the case to be confiscated under Section 68 of the Criminal Asset Recovery Order as the money was found to be proceeds of Mohd Arif's drugs activities.

The Chief Justice had found DPP Raafe' Ibrahim's case against the defendant's to be proven beyond the court's reasonable doubt, except for the consumption charge to which Mas Wira had pleaded guilty earlier.

The defendants were represented by counsel Mohd Shazale Salleh.
