JALAN PASAR BARU, GADONG

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) was the host yesterday to a delegation from the State Islamic Institute of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (IAIN SMH) in Banten, Indonesia.

The visit is part of a series of discussions, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNISSA and IAIN SMH Banten on October 18, last year.

The three-member group, led by Professor Dr. H Utang Ranuwijaya, was welcomed by UNISSA Rector Dr. Haji Norafan bin Haji Zainal.

The delegates were shown a corporate video of UNISSA, together with a briefing on the university's establishment and current administration by Deputy Rector Dr. Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad.

They were also given a description of the programmes offered at UNISSA by Acting Assistant Rector Dr. Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad.

Later, the Indonesian delegates gave details of the programmes being offered at IAIN SMH Banten and said they looked for collaboration with UNISSA.

With more than 7,000 students, IAIN SMH Banten is to be upgraded to a State Islamic University (UIN) in 2017.

The briefing session concluded with a dialogue between the two sides on programmes to enhance the quality of Islamic studies at the international level.
