(KPL) The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) Office in Vientiane organised its Digital French Speaking Contest on March 20, drawing 36 French-speaking students from Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Champassak.

This is the second year that the event has been conducted, this time under the topic “Digital World Tour of French Speaking Studies in 60 Minutes”.

It allowed the students to discover French-speaking countries all around the world as well as the French speaking Universities network in the Asia-Pacific Region and the world through searching games, studying opportunities and activities organised by this network, such as scholarships, workshops, and regional contests.

Miss Malisa Sengchansouliya, a student from the National University of Laos (NUOL) won the first prize, while Mr Chanthaneth Sayachack, a NUOL student, won the first runner-up prize, and Miss Alunya Vongsakhoun, a student from the Pakse Teacher-Training College won the second runner-up prize.

This contest is a great opportunity for students to try out their capabilities in searching for information online, and in French, according to a source from AUF.

Nowadays, this online searching skill is an essential in the academic world and that is why the AUF found that organising this contest was a good way to practise while having fun as contestants had to identify some of the Francophone Digital Campuses of the world through pictures and clues, and find information on the French-speaking Undergraduate and Masters’ Degrees in the Asia-Pacific region, or find out about French-speaking countries based on their flags and other games.

The contest was organised on the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie celebration. There were total 36 participants, of whom 17 students came from Champassak, 15 from Vientiane, and the rest came from Luang Prabang.

Last year, more than 40 French-speaking students from Luang Prabang and Champassak provinces and Vientiane joined the contest.
