A pilot has gone missing after a plane crashed in Ontario, Canada.
He left Ann Arbor Airport, Michigan, last Wednesday after renting the plane then the wreckage of the aircraft was found 285 miles away in Canada.
Investigators have not been able to locate a body or footprints in the snow around the wreckage, according to the Chronicle Journal.
Peter Rowntree said: ‘When [the pilot exited, and how [he] exited is still a mystery. The only way in or out is through the two main cabin doors.’
He added that the plane, a Cessna 172 registered to the University of Michigan Flyers, was not designed to carry parachutes.
It is believed the pilot was a Chinese national and graduate of the University of Michigan, however his identity has not been released.
He is said to be experienced and it is thought that he had put the plane on autopilot taking him on a path to Harbor Springs.
The plane came down in woodland near Manitouwadge, Canada.
Sergeant Peter Leon from the Ontario Police, said: ‘We were unable to locate the whereabouts of the pilot.’
Police declined to comment on whether or not it may have been a suicde.
