The second evening of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran Recitation Competition for Adults 1437H/2016 continued with four Qaris and four Qariahs reciting verses from the Al-Quran last night at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, in his capacity as the chairman of the competition's executive committee.
Among the participants were Awangku Muhd Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Emran, Awang Haji Nasrul Fakhri bin Haji Yahya, Dayang Hajah Nurul Akmalina binti Haji Yahya, Awang Haji Mohd Fikri bin Haji Metussin, Dayang Siti Huzaimah Yadey binti Haji Rosli, Awang Mohd Zul-Hafiz bin Tengah, and Dayang Norezah binti Haji Md Deli.
In an interview, one of the Qari, Awangku Muhd Adibul Amin said that the participants are given different chapters every year, and this was his first time reading Surah Al-Ahzab.
"The participants also had the opportunity to be coached by a specially invited Qari from Egypt, Dr Abdul Fattah al-Tarouti," he said.
Despite suffering from high fever the day before, Qariah Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah said that she was satisfied with her performance.
Hajah Nurfaezah took second place in the same competition in 2014 and was the champion in 2012.
She has represented Brunei Darussalam in five international Musabaqah competitions.
The results will be announced today at the same venue at 7.30pm.
Also present were state officials, Cabinet Ministers, deputy ministers, permanents secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries.
