SRI AMAN
About 100 residents of two longhouses at Jalan Jungkong in Bukit Bakong, Lingga are made homeless by a fire around 3am yesterday.
A spokesperson of Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department said the fire razed 15-door Rumah Langaw and eight-door Rumah Johnet at Jalan Jungkong. Rumah Langaw was 100 per cent damaged while Rumah Johnet 70 per cent.
“It is believed the fire started from a kitchen in a unit at Rumah Langaw before it spread to other units and then to the other longhouse (Rumah Johnet) at the back,” the spokesman said.
A resident of Rumah Langaw suffered minor injuries on the neck, and was sent to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment. Firemen received a distress call around 3.50am. Eight firefighters in a fire engine led by senior officer Nik Muhammad Afiq Nik Roslan rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire at 9.15am the next day. The longhouses are located about 32km from Sri Aman. Sri Aman District Officer Ismawie Salleh and Lingga SAO Mohamad Ellfizan Paukan were among those who rushed to the scene.
