The ABC project will feature an elevated boardwalk and new lookout decks, amongst other new facilities
The revamped Pang Sua Pond in Bukit Panjang will be officially unveiled on Saturday (March 25), following a makeover under the Public Utilities Board’s Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters Programmme.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be officiating at its opening ceremony on Saturday. More than 3,000 residents are expected to attend the event which will be held in conjunction with Chingay @ Heartlands 2017 and the opening ceremony of the 3G Wellness Centre at Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood 5 Park.
A key highlight of the makeover is a 480m-long elevated boardwalk suspended at a height up to 7m, which will connect residents to facilities such as the new 3G Wellness Centre, Senja-Cashew Community Club and Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood 5 Park.
Other features residents can look forward is two new lookout decks that will provide a view of the waterfront and a multi-purpose stage that can seat more than 250 people for outdoor performances and community events.
On the northen edge of the pond, residents can find a man-made floating wetland system “slightly bigger than an Olympic-sized swimming pool”, the second largest in Singapore. To further improve water quality in the pond, aerators have been installed.
Built in the 1990s, the Pang Sua Pond is a stormwater collection pond that collects rainwater runoff from the surrounding areas before the water is pumped to the Upper Seletar Reservoir for storage and treatment.
Six schools and Cashew Constituency have pledged to be adopters of Pang Sua Pond. The six schools are Teck Whye Primary School, Zhenghua Primary School, Greenridge Primary School, Zhenghua Secondary School, West Spring Primary School and West View Primary School.
