Artists from Malaysia and China are joining hands to promote China’s Belt and Road intercultural exchange via a series of events this year.

This is to mark the Belt and Road Initiative Malaysia-China Cultural and Arts Year, said Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung, who is a MCA vice-president and chairman of MCA think-tank, Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (Insap).

A calligraphy competition between Chinese and Malaysian youths, a joint exhibition of the work of women artists in China and Malaysia, and a travel literature forum are among the activities lined up between April and September.

Dr Hou said Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang will launch the opening ceremony of the Belt and Road Initiative Malaysia-China Cultural and Arts Year on April 15 at Wisma MCA.

In Malaysia, the events are co-organised by the Longhua Art Museum, Calligraphy Society of Malaysia, Malaysian Artists Society, Malaysian Chinese Cultural Society and the Chinese Calligraphy Stone Gallery.

In China, this initiative is backed by the Beijing Normal University, the International Association of Travel Literature in Chinese, and the World Association for Chinese Literature.
