Nation Celebrates Earth Hour 2017

While the world is experiencing the impacts of climate change on the news, we are also watching countries uniting together creating climate-friendly legislation across the globe. This year, Earth Hour continue to shine a light on climate action to inspire and empower individuals, communities, businesses and governments to be a part of critical climate action.
Brunei Darussalam also celebrated Earth Hour 2017. In the Tutong District, the Earth Hour was officiated by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong, member of the Legislative Council who is also the Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya. The event, which was jointly organised by the Tutong Municipal Department, Tutong District Office and the Tutong District Tourism Coordination and Promotion Body, aimed to raise awareness on global climate change and saving energy. The event saw participants light up candles and watch a video on Earth Hour. Also present was Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Umarali bin Esung, member of the Legislative Council.
A similar event was also held around the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the Capital. Present was Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamad, Earth Hour's Ambassador in the country. The activity is hoped to bring families and friends closer while sharing awareness about climate change, our forest, and renewable energy.
Meanwhile in the Belait District, the event was held at Vplaza in Kuala Belait. The Earth Hour event aimed to raise the awareness of youth and the community on the need for action on climate change and encourage energy saving practises.
