The effort to enhance the harmony and well-being of a kampung is not an easy task. It needs commitment, determination, consensus as well as a high progressive spirit and leadership from Penghulus and Ketua Kampung as leaders at the grassroot level in working together with the Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils and the community.

Awang Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, the Tutong District Officer, underscored the matter at the Makan Tahun Ceremony held by Kampong Menengah and Bukit Sulang Mukim Lamunin, in the Tutong District.

The Tutong District Officer expressed appreciation for the diligence, commitment and sacrifice of the time, effort and finance the villagers had contributed towards the success of the cooperative activity in preparing for the Makan Tahun ceremony. Awang Shamsul Bahrin also hoped that the village chief and the MPK members would continue their efforts to ensure that the understanding, harmony, cooperation and well-being of the mukim and kampung residents are maintained.

Makan Tahun is the culture and tradition of the Kedayans when kampung residents work together to prepare a traditional food for a gathering as a sign of appreciation at the end of a paddy harvest. According to Awang Haji Rosli bin Haji Ahad, the Ketua of Kampung Menengah and Bukit Sulang, this annual gathering could strengthen brotherly relations, preserve the culture of togetherness and cooperation among kampung community members so that the traditional legacy will continue to be practised by the future generations.
