Another baby has been found abandoned in Penang, the third case in the state since January. There were also two other dumping cases involving foetuses.
A woman called the police at about 8am yesterday after coming across a newborn baby boy along the corridor on the fifth floor of a block of flats in Perak Road.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the infant was found healthy with no injuries.
“He weighs 2.4kg and is 46cm long.
“He has been sent to Penang Hospital and is currently warded at the Neonatal Ward,” ACP Mior said in a statement yesterday.
He said police were investigating the case and looking for eyewitnesses among those living in the area.
This is the first abandoned baby found alive this year.
On Feb 12, the body of a baby boy with his umbilical cord still intact was found inside a toilet at the beach in Gertak Sanggul.
Five days earlier on Feb 7, an 81-year-old man rummaging through a garbage bin in Bandar Perda stumbled upon the remains of a baby boy.
In January, a six-month-old foetus was found inside a dumpster in Chai Leng Park while another foetus was found trapped at the sewage treatment plant in Lebuh-raya Batu Maung on March 14.
