Actions Against Drug Traffickers Urged To Be Intensified

Actions against drug-related offences must be intensified with drug traffickers severely punished, said PBB Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Advising against complacency, he said: “We cannot afford to rest on our laurels and let this social problem overwhelm our youths, turning them into unproductive citizens because of their addiction.

“This is the reason Malaysia has placed drug abuse as the number one enemy in the country. If left unchecked, this scourge can wipe out the most important asset of the nation for the future – its youth,” he reiterated.

He was responding yesterday to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement that children as young as seven were found addicted to drugs, making them the youngest to fall to the menace.

Abdul Karim remarked: “Drug abuse is a menace and a big stumbling block to the growth of a nation.

“Youths who indulge in drugs will become a liability to the nation and a source of many vices and crimes. It is sad that children as young as seven years old are getting hooked.

“Parents, schools, the community and government must be vigilant and put in all efforts to wipe out this menace from our society.”
