The Government of the Russian Federation has awarded an Order of Friendship to the President of the Lao National Assembly, Ms Pany Yathotou for her contribution to the development of cooperation between Laos and Russia.
The awarding ceremony took place at the Russian Embassy in Vientiane on April 3. The Russian Ambassador to Laos, Mr Mikhail Baranov represented the Russian government to pin the medal on Ms. Pany.
Ambassador Baranov recalled National Assembly President Pany’s performance, which has so far contributed to the consolidation of ties between the two countries, especially as President of the National Assembly, which he said was a key body in state management.
The ambassador also spoke about the two countries having upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership, which he said had been continued through consolidation and development. Also speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Pany said she was pleased and honoured to receive such a high award from the government of the Russian Federation as well as from President Vladimir Putin.
“This award honours not only myself but also the Lao National Assembly, Lao government and Lao people for all our contributions to strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between our two countries, Laos and Russia,” she said.
As President of the National Assembly, Ms Pany visited Russia in 2013, and with Speaker of the Federal Council of Russia, Ms Valentina Matvienko, attended the 35th Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly's General Assembly in Vientiane in 2014.
