BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
Following the hot weather that is hitting countries in the Northern Hemisphere, including Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has advised the public to take various measures to avoid any harm that could affect one's health.
People are urged to make sure that rooms are always in cool conditions, below 32°C in the morning and about 24°C at night.
This is important especially for infants, the elderly and those who have chronic diseases.
They are also advised to use loose clothing that is not too thick (besides using a hat and sunglasses) when out of the house, and to not let anyone under the sun, and to drink water frequently to avoid lack of body fluids and dehydration.
One should also avoid going out or doing heavy physical activities under the sun on hot days.
When necessary, perform any activities under shade or shelter, and take a break immediately in a cold room when suffering from muscle spasms in areas such as the abdomen, legs or hands (especially after exercising in very hot weather) and drink rehydration fluids to replace the water in the body.
If one experiences muscle cramps for more than an hour or experience symptoms that are unusual, he or she is advised to get treatment and to see a doctor immediately.
If one experiences headaches, weakness or strong dehydration, one must move to an area with cool room temperature as quickly as possible.
