Furry conventions are not a place you take your pet – but one woman didn’t realise until it was too late.
So you can imagine Cheryl Wassus’ shock when she turned up with her therapy dog, Link, only to find a huge group of humans dressed as animals.
Cheryl and Link’s adventure was documented in a series of hilarious tweets by her son, Kenny Wassus.
In an interview with New York Magazine, Cheryl explained she is involved with Pets for Vets, a charity that pairs dogs with soldiers, and assumed Motor City Furry Con was an animal event when it selected Pets for Vets as its charity.
She had no idea what a furry was before attending the event in Detroit, Michigan.
But Link, a one-year-old Bernese mountain dog, had the BEST time.
Cheryl said: ‘I learned so much about this whole new culture of people who get together and dress up in furry costumes.
‘I had no idea I was walking into Furry Con. It was a little embarrassing at first because Link was just a little curious why people were wearing tails, so he was doing some serious tail-sniffing and checking out people.
‘I saw little pieces of humanity I’d never seen before.’
Link made plenty of new friends, while Cheryl said the best costume belonged to a man wearing a ‘Hollywood level’ wolf outfit.
