THE Pengkalan Batu Cooperative Communal Farm (LK Pkl Batu) held its annual general meeting at the Mukim Pengkalan Batu Community Hall in Kampong Parit yesterday.
Representatives from the Agriculture Department, Cottage Industry Centre and members of the cooperative attended the meeting chaired by LK Pkl Batu Deputy Chairman Haji Mahmud bin Haji Hadi.
The meeting saw the appointment of the new executive committee (2017/2018) and a briefing on the rental rates of gazetted areas.
Pengkalan Batu Cooperative Communal Farm was established in July 1994.
It registered with Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) Cooperation Section in November 1994, and today it has 117 members.
Among the main projects carried out is the acquiring of land for agricultural farming of nearly extinct local fruits, which in turn helps preserve the green environment.
The cooperative currently has eight foreign workers.
The farm is located at Siabut in Kampong Pengkalan Batu, spread across 37 hectares gazetted by the Land Department on November 27, 1994.
In 2016, an additional 6.968 hectares was approved to accommodate members who weren't included in the gazetted area.
