President Bounnhang Delivers New Year Wishes

President Bounnhang Vorachit on Tuesday delivered a New Year message extending greetings and wishes to Lao people and people of Lao origin living overseas on the occasion of Lao New Year, mostly known as Pi Mai Lao B.E 2560.
“Today, on the occasion of saying goodbye to the Year of the Monkey B.E 2559 and welcoming new year the Year of the Rooster B.E 2560, I am very glad to extend best wishes to countrymen in the country and living abroad, foreigners residing and working in the Lao PDR. May everyone have happiness, joyfulness and record greater achievements than previous year,” said President.
The President recalled Year B.E 2559 as a meaningful year as it was the first year for implementing the resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Party and the 8th Five-Year National Socio-economic Development Plan of the government.
The President highlighted the solidarity, struggling spirit of multi-ethnic Lao people, the leadership of the Party and government, and support and assistance from friendly countries and international organizations which have created favourable conditions for the Lao PDR to continue to pursue in an active manner its national protection and development cause, ensuring political stability, peace and order in the society, constant economic growth with a per capita income reaching US$ 2,027.
He spoke highly of the successful hosting of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related summits.
“All (achievements) have resulted in improved living conditions of the multi-ethnic Lao people, and higher role and influence of the Lao PDR at regional and international arena,” said President.
The Year of the Rooster B.E 2560 which is approaching is the year when the Party and government are concentrating on their leadership of the active implementation of targets stated in the resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Party and the 8th Five-year National Socio-economic Development Plan as well as Development Strategy 2025 and Vision 2030, struggling to make our country developed in line with sustainable development vision and graduating it from the least developed country status by 2020.
He urged the Lao people to continue to maintain tradition of solidarity in an active manner and overcome difficulties and challenges, and address weak points to ensure the country becomes prosperous, people live a prosperous and happy life, and society is harmonious, democratic, just, and civilized.
