His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived safely in Manila, the Republic of the Philippines.

Present at Balagbag Air Base, Manila to greet His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam were His Excellency Carlos Garcia Dominguez III, Secretary of Finance as the Secretary-in-Attendance; and His Excellency Meynardo LB Montealegre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam.

Also present to greet His Majesty were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and Her Excellency Hajah Johariah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Philippines.

His Majesty then walked past a Static Guard of Honour before boarding a motorcade to a leading hotel in Manila, where His Majesty will reside throughout the State Visit. Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines was established in January 1984. Since then, the two countries enjoy broadening cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, defence, agriculture, energy, education and health. The Republic of the Philippines will also host the 30th ASEAN Summit, which will be held on 29 April 2017.
