MANILA, PHILIPPINES

 

The Official Welcoming Ceremony in honour of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam State Visit to the Republic of the Philippines were held at Malacañan Palace, Manila. Upon arrival at the Palace grounds, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines. His Majesty proceeded to the dais to receive the Royal Guard of Honour followed by the national anthems of both countries, and a twenty one gun salute.

 

His Majesty then inspected the Royal Guard of Honour mounted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines was established in January 1984. Since then, the two countries enjoy broadening cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, defence, agriculture, energy, education and health.

 

His Majesty was later introduced to State Dignitaries of the Republic of the Philippines, followed by the introduction of Brunei Darussalam's delegation members to His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Philippines.

 

His Majesty also signed the Visitor's Book at the Reception Hall, Malacañan Palace. Both leaders then proceeded to the Aguinaldo State Dining Room for a Bilateral Meeting. During the meeting, both leaders discussed bilateral issues as well as regional and international matters of mutual interest. After the meeting, His Majesty and His Excellency witnessed a Signing Ceremony of Cooperation Agreements at the Reception Hall.

 

Signing the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation on behalf of the Government of His Majesty and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Whilst the Government of the Republic of the Philippines was represented by Mr. Virgilio S. Almario, Chairperson of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

 

While signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Halal Industry and Halal Development and Promotion was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Retired) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, meanwhile the Government of the Republic of the Philippines was represented by His Excellency Ramon Lopez, Secretary of Trade and Industry.
